UPDATE: 50th Hobie Cat Nationals

What a time to be a Hobie Sailor!

With the 23rd Hobie 16 Worlds well underway over in Costa Brava, Spain, Team Australia are bringing it home in all the categories so far.

Cam & Suzzi took out the Masters Cup, narrowly beating their longtime training partners, Dazzy & Claire. Whilst in the the Grand Masters Cup, Rod & Kerry claimed the gold once again, reinstating their position as one of the greatest of all time Hobie 16 Teams.

However, it was in the Women’s World Championship where the real action was taking place. Going into the final day, the Andrews sisters, Carmen and Haylie, were on equal points with their Queensland counterparts, and last minute entrants, Bella & Juliet. As the curtain closed, teaming up for the first time since the ’97 Sotagrande Worlds, Bella & Juliet finished with the silver, and Carmen & Haylie with the bronze.

Consequently, this leads us into something very special.

how good is team aus?

At the time of press, there are currently 100 boats entered into the the 50th Australian Hobie Cat National Championships. That’s not too bad don’t ya think? We’ve finally cracked the tonne.

This is the largest contingent of Women’s teams ever at an Australian Hobie Cat Nationals. Not to mention the 34 Hobie 16s and 38 Hobie 14s. It’s only onwards and upwards from here!
